My pedagogical goals.
Looking forward to the upcoming years, I have many aims – most of which are based on past failures – in terms of how I’d like my classes to go. Here are four:
**generating – and sustaining – excitement while simultaneously not compromising intellectual rigor
**creating a space conducive to engaged discussion
**establishing and maintaining my own authority
**politics: central to any course I teach would be to foreground the stakes of intellectual inquiry. I would thus be centrally interested in having students examine democracy -- a category often taken as an absolute, apodictic Truth -- in comparative terms.
